PRIMARY SCHOOL: RED HOUSE DAY

The Primary Section, RED HOUSE had their Assembly this morning at 09.30 am. The theme for this morning was: Unity in Strength.

There was the garlanding of the picture of Tilak and the lighting of the lamp followed by a classroom discussion on Tilak, when he was born, what did he stand for and what he did for India.

The little boys sang one of their poems on Tilak that Sir Elvis put music to and did very well.

At a later stage there was the distribution of the prizes for students who participated in the Savio Quiz for the III & IV standards and a colouring competition for the I & II standards.

It was good to see so many of the kids coming up on stage to take their prizes away.

Fr. Rector in his talk told them about the them:Unity in Strength and how an elderly dad who was on his death bed got his quarreling sons together and told them that if they stayed united there would be nothing that would be able to destroy them.

We thank the boys of the RED HOUSE for the Assembly and together with them the teachers who trained them so well.

X A ASSEMBLY: YOUth MEDIA & ENTERTAINMENT

X A ASSEMBLY: YOUth MEDIA & ENTERTAINMENT

This morning the X A had their Assembly and had as its theme: ‘YOUth Media & Entertainment.’ The teacher, Miss Arlene Cardozo and her students prepared a beautiful script on the theme touching various aspects of Media & Entertainment: Influence by Movies; Influence by Music; Influence by Video Games; Influence by Social Networking (Face Book, Twitter, SMS, MMS etc); Influence by New Media.

The students used an idea from ‘Youth Patrol’ to bring out the message they had prepared. Congratulations to the students who painstakingly prepared the script and together with the script the video presentation.

The students prepared a video show with various clips that was relevant to us youngsters showing us how Media & Entertainment can influence us for the good or for the bad. The choice is ours and sometimes we are just carried away and are not aware of the consequences or the dangers that we place ourselves in.

Sharing on Movies they showed how movies could affect the young unconsciously and had an example of Sunil who seemed to have lost his respect for his dad, to the extent that his dad lost his temper and slapped him for being disrespectful.

Sharing on Music, they showed that though music is a good source of entertainment, it uses vulgar and abusive language in the lyrics. Some songs even go against people’s sentiments and religion thus hurting sentiments and feelings.

Touching on Video Games they portrayed how these games take one’s mind to an unrealistic, imaginative and virtual world and excess leads to addiction and hallucination.

Social networking sites act as an impetus to sharing and accepting content such as malicious websites and other such illegal distribution of unwanted matter.

It was a variety of song, dance and screen play to portray the theme. The students watching the show did really enjoy it as it carried a powerful message and was humorous too.

We would like to congratulate the students of X A and the teacher for placing before us a lot of food for thought.

The Compere ended by telling us that our minds are like clay, open to impressions until the final moulding. It is up to us to decide and choose the right thing in life.

Fr. Rector in his talk to the students stressed on our lives being like a field and just as a farmer reaps what he has sown in the field our lives too reap what we have sown. If we have sown seeds of goodness, kindness, compassion, generosity we will reap those fruits. If we have sown hatred, bad habits and abusive language etc we will reap just such bad fruits.

ST. DOMINIC SAVIO FEAST DAY - SCHOOL

ST DOMINIC SAVIO FEAST-SCHOOL

The catholic students had a beautifully animated mass with excellent singing and an offertory procession and the students of the other faiths had a prayer service in the school AV hall with Fr. Crispino being present with them. There were a number of past-pupils who also came in for the mass and the prayer service.

The theme for the mass was ‘Take my Five loaves & two fish’ and the Rector touched on the smallness of Dominic Savio who was big enough to give his entire life to God to be a saint. Pope Pius titled Dominic Savio, ‘the Little Giant.’

The teachers were invited for a festive lunch and the pre-primary staff prepared some very entertaining games that had us splitting with laughter. They organized the balloon game, the ribbons game in a variety of ways.

Fr. Rector said a few words and wished one and all a very happy feast.

While a sumptuous lunch was spread by Fr. Edwin and his team, each staff member went away with a little booklet on the life of St. Dominic Savio as a memento.

Thank you teachers for your dedication and sacrifice! God bless you all!

DOMINIC SAVIO FEAST-BOARDING

ST DOMINIC SAVIO FEAST 6th JULY 2012

The day for the boarders began with ‘Rising to music’ on the feast of St. Dominic Savio, 6th July 2012. Each one found a time-table for the day on his bed and half sleepy eyes strained to check what awaited them for the entire day. Bro. Michael had a number of surprises for the lads and the suspense was on right from the beginning.

After wash the boarders went to the boarding AV hall for their morning prayers and a very short but sweet reflection was prepared by Br. Michael on the life of Dominic Savio. The animated version of the Vision of Dominic Savio to Don Bosco portraying a variety of flowers each depicting a virtue.

After breakfast the boarders got ready to go to school for mass as they were to do the singing for the mass and play their instruments and accompany the singing. They did very well and sang in unison and harmony.

The catholic students had mass and the students of the other faiths had a prayer service in the school AV hall.

After mass the boarders had a variety of animated games such as box cricket, bucket-basketball, etc. What made the games more interesting were the intermittent rains that had the lads soaking in the rain and having fun. That took them to lunch with a delicious spread for one and all.

After lunch they had some moments to relax in the recreation hall and play some indoor games and at 01.00 pm they went once again the refectory to have a game of Housie. Did they have fun? You bet!
Rosary was said at 3.30pm and then tea with another set of animated games on the grounds followed by bath and preparation for the Boarding House System Inauguration at 7.15 pm.

Master Sachin Shedge the Captain, Master Leon Fernandes the Vice Captain, and the four Captains of the houses, Jarryd Joseph, Muttu Jayaraman, Sonu Shahuji and Michael Singh marched forward to take the oath as Leaders of the boarding. It was a very solemn ceremony and Fr. Crispino installed them as Leaders and gave them short pep talk about leadership and what was expected of them as leaders and the other team members.

All good things come to an end and after dinner there was a movie, entitled ‘Hugo’ of a young orphaned lad who lived on the railway station. The boys liked the movie and enjoyed the same. Being tired and exhausted from playing practically the whole day it was no surprise that they crashed into bed and were sound asleep in no time.

The words before going to bed by Bro. Michael, ‘You O Lord have mercy on us' seemed just a whisper as many were fast asleep.
