ST. DOMINIC SAVIO CHOWK

It is indeed a historic moment in the history of the annals of St. Dominic Savio Andheri, for on this day, Saturday, June 18, 2011, with the help of friends and benefactors of the Institute, Mr. Sailesh Parab the Municipal Corporator of Ward 69, Andheri East, was responsible for giving us St. Dominic Savio Chowk.

Many Shiv Sena dignitaries were present and the function began only at 20.00 hours. Shri. Ramesh Latke the MLA Advocate pulled the curtain to declare it St. Dominic Savio Chowk. Soon after there was the prasad with the traditional breaking of the coconut and the slab with the name of our Municipal Corporator was also thrown open to all present by Shri Ramesh Latke and Shri Anil Parab.

Among the Salesians present were Fr. Michael Fernandes, Provincial; Fr. Ajoy Fernandes, Vice Provincial; Fr. Godfrey D’Souza, Rector; Fr. Crispino D’Souza, Principal; Fr. Edwin Colaco, Administrator and Bro. Roshan Gonsalves.

There were lots of benefactors, Cooperators, Past-Pupils, Teachers of the school and friends of the Institute who were present for this auspicious occasion. It was indeed a feather in the cap for all of us at St. Dominic Savio’s.

We are indeed grateful to one and all who contributed in so many ways to help St. Dominic Savio’s Chowk become a reality.

God bless you all!

Godfrey D'Souza, the Rector, Fr. Edwin Colaco, the Administrator, Fr. Barnabe D'Souza the Director of Balprafulta and Mrs. Vidya the Secondary Supervisor. Fr. Crispino D'Souza the Principal was on stage.

He welcomed one and all and told the new comers that he was proud that they took a bold and decisive step in joining the institute. He told them that it was their turn to excel in academics and other disciplines like those who passed out before them.

The new year holds exciting possibilities and promises and prayed that each and every youngster would benefit from all that was happening in Dominic Savio's. He wished the X standard students all the best and hoped that all of them would come out in flying colours at their examinations.

Staff Meeting of St. Dominic Savio High School

In preparation for the opening of the new academic year 2011-2012 Fr. Crispino D'Souza, the Principal called for a staff meeting on Monday the 13th June 2011 at 10.00 am. He welcomed the staff and then asked Fr. Godfrey D'Souza the Rector to lead all in prayer and give his speech.

Fr. Rector, asked the Lord for His blessings on the Staff and the students and asked that we as Educators be inspired to bring out the best in our students.

Rather than give a speech as he normally does, this time he used two clippings to get across a message to us Educators. The message from the students was clear and simple: "Do you believe in me?"

The second clipping was a keynote address by Dalton Sherman, a 10 year old youngster from Dallas who spoke to a crowd of 20 thousand telling the Educators and parents that they should not give up on the young as 'we' Educators are the only ones some of them have.

Fr. Rector introduced Fr. Barnabe D'Souza to the staff and informed them that Fr. Barnabe who worked for twenty years with street children is now the Director of Balprafulta and the social development section. Fr. Barnabe obtained his PhD in Social work and his thesis was on 'Drug abuse among street children.'

Fr. Crispino then welcomed some of the new staff members and introduced them to the whole group. He gave a couple of instructions to all the staff members and asked them to attend another meeting the next day where the rules of the institution would be read out to all.

With all the formalities over the meeting adjourned at 11.30 am
