World Children’s Day

Don Bosco Balprafulta celebrates the joy of being a child on the
20th of November 2011 which is universally celebrated as World
Children’s Day. Don Bosco Balprafulta is an NGO working
with children in Slums, Missing or Runaway Children on railway stations in the
city of Mumbai through their projects Rihaaee, Talash & Community.
Established in April 2000, Don Bosco Balprafulta focuses on enabling children to claim
their rights and be able to live in a free and protected society.
Universal
Children's Day takes place on November 20 every year, first proclaimed by the
United Nations General Assembly in 1959, which was established to bring unity
and peace across the nations. It encourages all countries to celebrate this day,
to promote mutual understanding about children and initiate action to benefit
and promote the welfare of the world's children. The UN Convention of Rights of
a Child is a human
rights treaty setting
out the civil, political, economic, social, health and cultural rights of children.
World
Children’s Day was celebrated at St. Dominic Savio High school in Andheri. 800 children from 20 NGOs, Slum
Communities, CBOs, & streets. The event comprised group work
activities in 30 classes which included slogans, songs, games, quizzes, &
creative artwork on child rights from 9am to 1pm .The Main stage event included
dances, street plays, Nickelodeon artist performance & a Special children’s
Rock band who performed on Sadda Haq depicting the meseage of a right of every
child. The Event was supported By Disney, Nickelodeon, Provogue, Polycab,
Benefactors, Bisleri, Godrej, Radio Mirchi 98.3 FM. 100 Volunteers from
different Colleges like SNDT, St. Xaviers, St Dominic Savio High school and
Holy Spirit Hospital.
The children
left the premises with a strong message from Don Bosco Balprafulta Of Sadda
Haq of each child and fight for it.
The CRC
follows principles which recognize every child, irrespective of their caste,
creed, ex, race, religion or social status. Almost all countries have signed
the treaty and follow it strictly.
India has
taken active role in strengthening it by including these rights in its
Constitution. The seven fundamental rights recognized by the constitution are:

Equality
2.
Right to
Freedom
3.
Right
against exploitation, prohibiting all forms of forced labour, child labour and
traffic in human beings
4.
Right to
freedom of religion,
5.
Cultural and
Educational rights
6.
Right to
constitutional remedies for enforcement of Fundamental Rights
As we know
every human being has rights but they often get discriminated due to different
reasons. Children too have rights but are always discriminated or not taken
seriously. Child Rights are of utmost importance and recognized by Don Bosco
Balprafulta which is celebrating the Rights of Children along with 800 children
across Mumbai. DBBP is connecting and encouraging every child on World
Children’s Day to say “ I am a Child and I know my Rights, Do you…?”
