PTA AGM Meet June 25 2011

On Saturday, 25 June 2011 the School had its first PTA AGM meeting. The Secondary Section had its meeting from 9.00 am to 10.30 pm and the Pre-Primary and Primary had its meeting from `0.30 am to 12.00 noon.

Fr. Crispino the Principal began with a prayer and then welcomed the parents to this first meeting of the year. He welcomed parents who were new to the school and had admitted their children into Dominic Savio’s for the first time.

After introducing the Secondary staff to the parents he then invited the Rector, Fr. Godfrey D’Souza to share his thoughts with the parents. Fr. Rector spoke to the parents on ‘Parenting, the Don Bosco Way.’ He spoke about the Preventive System of Don Bosco and the three main pillars of the Preventive system: Rapport (Loving Kindness), Religion and Reason. He spoke about parents making time to be with children and enjoying the ordinary things that children love. He exhorted the parents to take heed as it is important to listen to your children. Listen to what your children are saying; listen to what they are not saying, and listen to the things they are afraid to say.

He also said that another important feature for parents is to be available to children, spend time with children in their play and encourage them in what they value. Appreciation is important for children and as parents we need to give as much appreciation as we can to our children for their growth.

The Rector ended up with the words of Don Bosco: Education is a matter of the Heart!

ST. DOMINIC SAVIO CHOWK
