NOVENA TO DS THIRD DAY

On the third day of the Novena, 29 June, the feasts of the two great apostles we had Fr. Roy Noronha who was the celebrant and spoke of St. Dominic Savio's devotion to our Lady.

On the fourth day Fr. Jeffrey Fernandes spoke on 'A Rose that blooms' and spoke of how Dominic Savio bloomed where he was planted, listening to Don Bosco and following his instructions. He was taken up with Don Bosco's Good-night telling the boys that all were destined to be saints. He took up the challenge and did all in his life to be a saint.

Today, Fr. Anthony Santarita the Rector of our Technical Institute at Borivali was the main celebrant and spoke on 'Concern for neighbour' Who is my neighbour? he asked the boys? One who is in need, one who needs to be reached out to, one who is lonely and is sad. Dominic Savio he said reached out to his friends who needed his help. We have to do the same each day and reach out to all who need us in one way or another.

NOVENA TO DOMINIC SAVIO BEGINS

The novena to St. Dominic Savio began on the 27 June with Fr. Reggie Gracias as the main celebrant who touched on 'Obedience' as the theme of the day and took us through the scriptures from Cain & Abel to Abraham, Moses and Jesus. And showed us how Dominic Savio was obedient to Don Bosco and on account of his obedience became a saint.

The second day we had Fr. Glen Lowe who touched on the vision of Don Bosco where he saw Dominic Savio with a group of youngsters in heaven with a bouquet of flowers. Each flower represented a virtue:

Rose: for love of God; Lily: love of purity and goodness; Gentian: for humility; Sunflower: for obedience; Violets: penance, mortification & reconciliation; Stalk of wheat: nourishment in the Eucharist; Evergreen: for perseverance.

He gave a brief explanation on each and told the boys that at the end of the vision Dominic Savio had three little papers in his hand and Don Bosco asked him, what are those? Dominic Savio said these are lists of boys. The first list is of boys who have been very good and are holy. The second list is of boys who are good and want to be better. Some of them have changed and become better. The third list is of boys who have not changed and want to remain bad.

He asked the lads in church, at the end of the novena to Dominic Savio which list would you like to be in?

HOUSE SYSTEM INAUGURATED

On Wednesday, 27th June 2012, St. Dominic Savio High School had the Inauguration of the House System at the Assembly. It was a display of colours depicting the various houses of the school: 

The Compere informed the assembly that ‘Team work is the fuel that allows common people to attain uncommon results. The house system helps to foster in the student a sense of collective responsibility and solidarity. The house system lays emphasis on team efforts rather than individual self.’

The main objectives of the house system are:

1. To conduct the affairs of the houses on the principles of a well-run family with the house mistress/master  

        as the head.

2. To assist in the maintenance of discipline, developing leadership and sound competitive spirit.

3. To develop in the pupils a civic sense and loyalty to the school.

The Leaders and Vice Captains of the various houses accompanied by their house teachers came forward to take their oath and promise.

Red House under the patronage of Blessed Michael Rua, the first successor of St. John Bosco.

Blue House under the patronage of Blessed Artemide Zatti a Salesian brother who was an embodiment of service and compassion.

Green House under the patronage of Mickey Magone a firebrand student of Don Bosco who changed his way of life on account of the influence of Don Bosco.

Yellow House under the patronage of Blessed Philip Rinaldi a master of Salesian ways and Spirituality.

Fr. Rector then declared the House System of St. Dominic Savio High School for the year 2012-2013 open and shared a few thoughts on Team work and team spirit.
